Dr. Phil Bresnahan Quick Bio —
Phil Bresnahan has made the water his playground and office for most of his life. He grew up painting seashells and boogie boarding in the Atlantic Ocean and he now surfs, paddleboards, and invents chemical oceanographic sensors on the Pacific Coast. Bresnahan is a Senior Development Engineer at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, and the Lead Engineer of the Smartfin Project. During his Ph.D. studies at Scripps, he attached a 35 pound pH and dissolved oxygen sensor to his stand-up paddleboard to teach kids of all ages that there’s more to being a scientist/engineer than just sitting behind a computer screen or staring at beakers in the lab. He’s thrilled to be working with such a talented, high-energy team on this crucial issue of planetary health and to be performing his field studies by going surfing!
